Small Grants

There are two categories of basic grants the Foundation awards: general purpose grants and small grants. Other programs and initiatives are managed separately from general grantmaking.

Matching Funds

Non-profit 501 (c)(3) organizations may apply for a maximum of 50% of the total project cost.

Units of government (tax supported) may apply for a maximum of 25% of the total project cost.

The small grants program allows the Trustees to assist a large number of worthy organizations with a broad array of small projects which are limited in scope but significant for the organization. Small grants are rarely awarded to large organizations. Small grants range in size from $500 to $10,000. The Trustees created this category of grants to support small, defined projects; not to contribute small amounts to much larger budgets.

Our Grant Application Guidelines are required for an applicant to submit a funding request. These guidelines are available through our office only, please contact us to establish your organization’s eligibility and further discuss your project. Our Guidelines explain in greater detail what information is required.

Any applicant may submit a total of up to two applications, general or small, (for two separate projects) in any 12 month period. If an application for a project is declined, however, another application for that same project cannot be resubmitted for one year. For this reason, it is to the applicant’s advantage to postpone submitting an application until the strongest possible case can be made for the project.

Matching Funds

All Peter Kiewit Foundation grants are awarded on a matching funds basis. All necessary matching funds must be committed and identified before a small grant will be considered. Non-profit 501 (c)(3) organizations may apply for a maximum of 50% of the total project cost. Units of government (tax supported) may apply for a maximum of 25% of the total project cost.

Grant Terms

Every approved grant comes with certain conditions that are detailed in grant documents. Foundation funds are paid out when a project is completed. All grants are structured to ensure that the project will be completed and to help the grantee raise the balance of funds needed.  end graphic
