Initiatives

From time to time, the Trustees of the Peter Kiewit Foundation develop targeted grant programs and special initiatives to address particular areas of need. The Foundation’s current initiatives include:
Legacy Scholarship Program
For graduating high school seniors in Nebraska. Eligible students must: (1) be a Nebraska resident, (2) demonstrate financial need, (3) be in top 20% of their graduating high school class, and (4) plan to be enrolled full-time at a 4-year accredited public or private college in Nebraska. Selection is based on financial need, academic ability, and character. Applications are available each fall from Nebraska high school counselors and the Peter Kiewit Foundation office. Fifty scholarships are awarded annually with a value of $7,500 per year. Scholarships may be renewed for a maximum of 4 years or $30,000. The current application deadline for this program is January 6, 2010.

Neighborhood Grant Program
These grants are awarded annually to help organized Omaha neighborhood associations develop or complete projects that enhance or improve neighborhood safety, appearance, beautification, and organization. Projects should also encourage neighborhood participation. Grants are awarded on a matching funds basis or issued as a challenge. No more than 50% of the total project cost will be considered. The maximum award is $10,000. Application materials are available from the Peter Kiewit Foundation office. The current application deadline for this program is February 1, 2010.

Summer Fun
This is an annual summer field trip program offered to non-profit agencies in Omaha that serve disadvantaged and at-risk youth from urban neighborhoods. This program is offered by invitation only. Field trip destinations include local museums, parks, and recreational venues. The program is designed to help expose youngsters to interesting, fun, and educational experiences during their summer school vacation. Application materials are not available.  Diamond
